The trailer for the upcoming Netflix original movie Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story surprisingly looks promising. The 2024 historical comedy will mark the feature film directorial debut of longtime comedian Jerry Seinfeld, who will also star in the anticipated movie. Unfrosted is expected to stream exclusively on Netflix starting on May 3, 2024, and has revealed an incredibly star-studded ensemble cast that includes comedic actors such as Melissa McCarthy (Spy, The Heat) and Bill Burr (The King of Staten Island).

Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story is set in a classic American setting in 1963 Michigan. The story follows what appears to be an abbreviated and satirized version of the true business rivalry between cereal giants Kellogg’s and Post as the rush to develop a popular at-home breakfast pastry takes off. As both Kellogg’s and Post try to create a product that will change breakfast forever, the creation of the iconic Pop-Tart is expected to be invented by the end of Seinfeld’s new movie.

Unfrosted
is written by Seinfeld and the same 3 writers who wrote Bee Movie (2007).

Jerry Seinfeld’s Unfrosted Is Embracing The Absurdity Of The Pop-Tart Origin Story

Seinfeld’s directorial debut is bound to be full of laughs

Unfrosted
looks to be in the same wheelhouse as the popular 2023 comedy
Flamin’ Hot
which humorously chronicled the origin of the Flamin’ Hot Cheeto.

Based on the hilarious and self-aware trailer for Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story, the film is clearly not trying to root itself in the potentially mundane real-life creation of the Pop-Tart. Unfrosted looks to be in the same wheelhouse as the popular 2023 comedy Flamin’ Hot which humorously chronicled the origin of the Flamin’ Hot Cheeto. In the trailer, Amy Schumer appears to be playing a business competitor at Post while Hugh Grant is Kellogg’s mascot, Tony the Tiger, from their popular Frosted Flakes cereal.

Most notably, Bill Burr appears to be portraying President John F. Kennedy in Unfrosted, raising the question of how Seinfeld and McCarthy’s characters even got to that point in the story. It’s unclear just how much of Unfrosted will be rooted in historical accuracy, but that doesn’t seem to be the point of the movie at all. The message from the Unfrosted trailer is that the new Netflix release is intended to be enjoyable above everything else. With Seinfeld at the helm, it’s safe to say that Unfrosted will keep the tone light, funny, and widely accessible.
