Dune 2 Box Office Breaks Global Record For Timothée Chalamet

Summary

  • Dune: Part Two
surpasses $631 million at the box office, making it Timothée Chalamet’s highest-grossing film to date.
  • Despite not having his highest Tomatometer rating, the sci-fi epic sequel showcases Chalamet’s acting talents in a complex role.
  • The success of
    Dune: Part Two
sets the stage for the upcoming installment,
    Dune Messiah
, promising more of Chalamet’s stellar performance.

Even after a month of playing in theaters, Dune: Part Two has passed yet another box office milestone. Based on the novel by Frank Herbert, the epic movie, directed by Denis Villeneuve, finishes the two-part adaptation and follows Paul Atreides as he becomes one with the desert and Fremen, achieving his revenge upon the Harkonnen and his status as messiah along the way. At the time of this writing, Dune: Part Two‘s box office has grossed $631 million worldwide, keeping its status as the No. 1 release of the year so far.

According to Collider, Dune: Part Two has reached another milestone regarding actor Timothée Chalamet. With $631,316,791 grossed worldwide, Dune: Part Two is now the highest-grossing movie Chalamet has starred in as a leading actor. The film recently beat out Wonka, which also stars Chalamet, and grossed $631,058,526 worldwide, about $300,000 less than Dune: Part Two. The only movie to gross higher overall was Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar at $647 million, in which Chalamet had a supporting role.

Dune: Part Two
and
Wonka
have each grossed $630 million, a combined $1.2 billion, worldwide.

Numbers Aside, Is Dune: Part Two the Best Timothée Chalamet Movie?

The debut of Dune: Part Two saw instant critical success and has so far proven to also be a commercial success. At the time of writing, the sci-fi epic sports a 93% from critics and 95% from audiences on review-aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. This is, however, not the highest Tomatometer the young actor has earned in his career. That accolade would belong to Lady Bird, which currently has a 99%. Other films that Chalamet has starred in and have high Tomatometers include Little Women (95%) and Call Me by Your Name (94%), with major comparisons seen below:

Tomatometers aside, Dune: Part Two may be the best display of the actor’s talents. The complexity of Paul as a character and the trials he goes through allow Chalamet to give a performance that rivals the ones he gave in Call Me by Your Name and 2019’s The King. Comparing the films themselves, the sheer scope of Dune: Part Two, and its combined critical and commercial success, make the film one of Chalamet’s bests.
